Photo of London-based, South African artist, Celia Avigdor

I was born in Zimbabwe (Rhodesia at the time), went to high school in Durban and qualified in medicine at the University of Cape Town, South Africa. In 1993, I found myself settling in the UK and still live in North London.

Leaving clinical medicine in 1995, I completed a foundation course in Art and design at the City Lit in 1997. However, practicalities required me to lean on my training in the medical field and I have worked for medical communications agencies, the Royal College of Physicians, and as a freelance medical writer and editor over the past 25 years.

In 2014 I was able to revisit being creative with weekly adult art classes. And I have very happily been spending more time painting in the last few years.

I feel both excited and daunted about putting my work 'out there' and really hope you share my pleasure in bright, bold, passionate colour.
